FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Your guide to happy, healthy, well-trained dogs — the positive way!
What training methods do you use?
We use only positive reinforcement training — a science-based, humane approach that rewards desired behaviors instead of punishing unwanted ones. This means lots of treats, praise, toys, and fun. Our goal is to build trust, confidence, and a strong bond between you and your dog.
The American Veterinarian Society of Animal Behavior recommends this method exclusively:
What kinds of classes do you offer?
We offer:
- Group Training Classes – For puppies through advanced adult dogs.
- Private Training – One-on-one sessions tailored to your dog’s needs and your goals.
- Puppy Socialization Groups – Safe, supervised play for pups under 6 months to build social skills.
- Activity Classes – Fun learning beyond basic obedience, including tricks, scent games, agility, and more for teens and adult dogs at all levels.
How do I know which class is right for my dog?
- Is your pup under 20 weeks old? Sign up for Wonder Puppy Class and our Puppy Socialization groups.
- Is your dog past the puppy stage and ready to learn skills and manners? Start with Level 1 of our Levels program and work your way through at your own pace.
- Are you looking for ways to exercise your dog’s brain and body that are fun for you and for them? Join us in our tricks, agility, nose work or other activity classes.
Still unsure where to start? Contact us by phone or email for a free initial consultation so we can learn more about your dog’s age, experience, temperament, and training goals. From there, we’ll suggest the best fit for you and your pup.
Can my dog join group classes if they’ve never had training before?
Yes! We have beginner-level classes for dogs of all ages, including adult dogs who are brand new to training. We’ll help you and your dog learn the basics in a fun and encouraging environment.
My dog is shy or nervous around other dogs. Should we still try a group class?
It depends on your dog’s comfort level. We may suggest starting with private training to help build confidence and gradually introduce group settings. Your dog’s emotional well-being is our top priority.
What vaccinations are required?
For the safety of all participants, we require proof of current vaccinations and a clean fecal test:
- Puppies: The first round of DHPP vaccination, then remain on your veterinarian’s recommended schedule for future vaccines
- Adult dogs: current on core vaccines (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella).
- All dogs: proof of a clean fecal test collected within the last 6 months
Is it safe for my puppy to play with other puppies before they are fully vaccinated?
- The American Veterinary Association of Animal Behavior states:
THE PRIMARY AND MOST IMPORTANT time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing overstimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behavior. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring:
- A standard flat collar or harness (no choke, prong, or e-collars).
- A sturdy leash (no retractable leashes).
- Small, soft, high-value treats your dog loves.
- A favorite toy (optional, but encouraged).
- A positive attitude and a smile — your dog will feel it!
Do you work with behavior issues like reactivity or aggression?
Yes! We have a reactivity program with in person classes, virtual classes, meet ups for practice and private training sessions. Start with the intake form on our website and we’ll help you create a training plan tailored to your dog’s needs.
How big are your group classes?
We keep our class sizes small — usually 4–6 dogs — so everyone gets plenty of personal attention and coaching time.
Can the whole family come to training?
Absolutely! We encourage all family members who interact with the dog to attend so everyone uses the same training techniques. Children are welcome with adult supervision.
What’s your cancellation policy?
We understand life happens! Please provide at least 24 hours notice for private sessions and check your class registration confirmation for policies regarding group classes.
How do I sign up?
First, create a Paw Partner profile, upload your vaccinations and fecal test results. Then make a reservation request through Paw Partner. Spaces fill quickly, so we recommend reserving your spot early.
